Job Responsibilities include:

Credit and lending support

  • Develop and manage day to day delivery and compliance of SFG credit policies
  • Supervise processes for all lending applications, lending approvals, drawdown approvals, lending document preparation and PPSR registrations and releases in accordance with Speirs Finance Group policies and applicable regulations
  • Review and where required upgrade and implement Speirs Finance Group procedures and guidelines for managing credit risk
  • Assist in the early identification of problem loans and assist the businesses in their timely resolution
  • Monitor exposure limits and credit risks within the Speirs Finance Group portfolio and undertake regular portfolio credit quality overviews. Assess new business against credit risk appetite.
  • Oversee and set delegated authorities within the business
  • Coordinate the approval process for credit applications prior to submission to the Credit Committee
  • Work closely with agents, Sales Channels and customers as required
  • Work closely with GM Finance to review, develop and implement a robust Collections strategy and Collections policies and procedures
  • Provide regular training and coaching to credit team to improve skills and competency within the team including sharing best practice and lessons learned from hindsighting
  • Ensure that proper and appropriate provisions are raised for impaired loan accounts, and ensure that any write-offs recommended are authorised in accordance with the appropriate policies
  • Support the credit team to make well informed, timely and creditworthy decisions within agreed service standards
  • Work closely with the Head of Commercial Lending and Senior Commercial Lending Manager to implement appropriate policies and procedures for managing
  • Work alongside the ELF Group GM Risk and Compliance to build and maintain a quality credit assurance programme conducting both hindsighting and real time reviews
  • Ensure policies and procedures are sufficiently designed to ensure customer's have adequate insurance cover on collateral with reputable insurers
  • Oversee and ensure compliance by agents and lending staff with all AML requirements and procedures when granting and documenting lending approvals
  • Maintain and update appropriate knowledge with reference to changing legislation or industry recommendations for "good practice"
  • Provide credit reporting updates to the SFG Board and Leadership team
  • Be at the forefront of emerging practice/industry developments

Enterprise Risk

  • Work together with the ELF Group GM Risk and Compliance to develop a fit for purpose credit and asset management risk framework, quantify, and monitor credit and asset management risk limits, and create informative risk reporting measures to inform key stakeholders
  • Provide input in relation to all aspects of credit and asset management risk appetite and ensure that operational activities are carried out in alignment with the set risk appetite.
  • Work jointly with the ELF Group GM Risk and Compliance to assess key credit risk and asset risk areas and set appropriate annual quality assurance testing programme for Speirs Finance Group. Review outputs of the quality assurance testing and implement appropriate hindsight training and updates to relevant credit and asset management risk policies and procedures.

Asset Management

  • Manage the overall asset management framework for Speirs Finance Group and ensure the chattel risk exposure within the group is within appetite and accurately reported as required
  • Work with Senior Asset Manager to ensure the group's asset management and residual value risk appetite is developed, understood, communicated and maintained
  • Report on any chattel risk exposures that exceed appetite to support any loss or near miss reviews and work with advise on bespoke sell down strategies to mitigate unnecessary loss
  • Work alongside the Senior Asset Manager to optimise disposal values and disposal timeframes by developing appropriate sell down strategies for SFG
  • Oversee regulatory obligations for disposing of repossessed and/or surrendered assets/security
  • Ensure efficient operation and performance of the asset management team
  • Leverage chattel risk intelligence where possible including from peers and group companies (e.g. AB Equipment)

Business Support

  • Manage overall delinquency strategy for Speirs Finance Group, in particular strategies for managing customers deemed to be at high risk of default/loss
  • Work with the Business Support Manager to determine appropriate Customer/Obligor relationship management strategies that align to the best strategic outcome for both the Obligor and Speirs Finance Group
  • Develop a clear strategy and processes for Asset Management engagement to manage repossession activity for exit files
  • Review, manage and where applicable make recommendations for improvements to loss and provision policies and procedures
  • Utilising and managing within the allocated Designated Lending Authority where appropriate
  • Work with the ELF GM Risk and Compliance to ensure adherence to agreed policies, procedures and overall risk appetite and reporting where there are incidents of non-compliance or operational risk incidents identified.
  • Provide relevant reporting updates to the SFG Board and Leadership team

Additional Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction and communication with individuals, both internal and external.
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to Company core values.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs to provide constructive recommendations and actions to support Speirs Finance initiatives/goals.
  • Keep the SFG CEO and senior leaders informed of key and emerging risks as well as strategies in place to manage such risks
  • Maintain discretion with regard to the handling of sensitive information
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required

What you will need to succeed:

  • 15+ years Lending and Risk experience within a financial services organisation
  • A recognised tertiary qualification
  • Team player through and through – leave your ego at the door and be prepared to challenge, and be challenged, hold your opinions lightly and work together with others to achieve the best outcome possible for the Speirs Finance Group
  • Minimum of 10 years demonstrated leadership experience
  • Extensive knowledge of financial services, in particular asset finance and leasing
  • Sound commercial acumen with the ability to appropriately balance risk mitigation with sound commercial and pragmatic judgment
  • Proven ability to build consensus and deliver robust and practical risk management policies and frameworks
  • Comfortable serving as a trusted partner with and advisor to executive level teams
  • Dedicated commitment to present a positive and professional image to staff and to role model professional working practices
  • Flexible and nimble in both working style and view of risk management measures to adapt to dynamic risk conditions
  • Track record of fostering and strengthening risk management processes across all levels of an organisation.
